Tools of the trade: Morita Veraview X800 CBCT

Tools of the trade: Morita Veraview X800 CBCT

by Dr Anup Shenai, Rochester Dental Clinic and Moama Dental Clinic, VIC & NSW

When I opened Moama Dental Clinic in 2016, I was using an OPG unit for my routine dentistry. Our patients had to be sent to another clinic to get a CBCT scan for implant surgery planning. I decided to invest in a CBCT and with advice from the rep at Henry Schein, I purchased the Veraview X800.

What’s good about it

This unit provides resolution so great the most minute details are clearly defined. I discovered that many practitioners specialising in root canals use this unit for exactly that reason. It’s an expensive CBCT unit but I believe it’s worth the money.

Henry Schein installed the unit and clearly instructed all the appropriate staff on its operation. Not only do we use it for all our implant cases but also to diagnose root canal treatment. It clearly displays how many canals are present and their shape.

It can provide OPGs along with CBCT, which is perfect for wisdom teeth surgeries. We now deal with 50 to 60 per cent of the wisdom teeth cases that we previously referred. With implant cases, we can diagnose quickly, book the patient in straight away and provide a streamlined, efficient workflow.

The Veraview has 11 different fields of view rather than the traditional three or four. The radiation dose is minimal which allows us to strictly stick to ALARA—As Low As Reasonably Achievable.

What’s not so good

Dedicated space is needed to house the unit. When building my Moama practice, we allowed space to house the CBCT unit. My Rochester practice is an old building that we renovated but it was difficult to create the space to house
the unit.
